Fortitude will launch the project to foreign buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market; Justin Kelly is writing and directing. Kristen Stewart, James Franco and Helena Bonham Carter are circling the biopic JT Leroy, a Hollywood-set transgender story. Justin Kelly, who directed James Franco in 2015’s I Am Michael, will helm the film from a script he wrote. The true story goes behind the scenes of the hoax of JT LeRoy, a woman who pretended to be a man who identifies as transgender, tricking the rich and famous in Hollywood, the fashion world and elite literary circles. The biopic will be based on memoir and life rights of Savannah Kroop, who was behind the complicated ruse. LBI Entertainment, Aquarius and Rabbit Bandini Productions are producing with Aquarius providing equity financing. Franco is attached while Stewart and Carter are currently in negotiations. Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart will help tell the tale of Lizzie Borden. Pieter Van Hees, who helmed the 2014 film Waste Land, will direct the new untitled psychological thriller about the grisly murders of the Borden family. Bryce Kass will write the script. Sevigny will play Borden, the strange and fragile woman who was infamously tried and acquitted for murdering her father and stepmother with an ax in 1892. The film will explore the events that led up to that night. Stewart, who is in early negotiations, will play the Bordens’ live-in maid, Bridget Sullivan. Sullivan was a witness to the family tension, and may have been in the home when the murders were committed. She testified at the trial. ETA:  Screendaily  has just confirmed that Rob WILL star in the film and posted a statement from the producers about him. Robert Pattinson is attached to play the lead role in Claire Denis’ upcoming English-language sci-fi film, written with British writer Zadie Smith. Paris-based producers Alcatraz Film confirmed the casting to ScreenDaily and said:  “We are very proud and very happy, as is Claire, about what will be a great collaboration. Robert is committed to the project and we are committed to him.” Pattinson is set to play the astronaut lead role in the as-yet-untitled film, which Screen first reported on in June. Juliette Binoche, Tim Roth and Robert Pattinson are attached to “The Childhood of a Leader,” a new drama directed by Brady Corbet , Variety has learned. The pic is Corbet’s feature directorial debut, after winning honorable mention at Sundance in 2009 for his short “Protect You + Me.” The drama, which tells the childhood of a post-World War I leader, is tentatively scheduled to shoot in Europe starting in May. Corbet co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold, the director of the upcoming Sundance drama “The Sleepwalker.” It will be produced by Antoine and Martine de Clermont-Tonnere, Chris Coen and Amour Fou. Corbet, the star of this year’s Sundance indie “Simon Killer,” just wrapped roles in Noah Baumbach’s “While We’re Young,” Andrea Di Stefano’s “Paradise Lost” and Bertrand Bonello’s “Saint Laurent.” Variety
