Rob Listed As One Of The Best 25 Actors In Their 20s By Complex

Image
Robert Pattinson Age: 27 Notable Role: Eric Packer in Cosmopolis (2012) The actor who became famous for portraying a sparkly vampire is so much more than just the pretty face on your little sister’s Teen Bop magazine. As his icy work in Cronenberg’s adaption of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis demonstrated, Pattinson is a talented actor, and more than capable of carrying a film. While the world was distracted by his romantic life, Pattinson was busy sharpening his skills in more respectable films such Little Ashes and Bel Ami. He is currently working on smaller independent projects. Source

Latercera.com – Interview With David Cronenberg On “Cosmopolis” (Rob Featured)

Image
Was it hard to film this? Yes, in general I struggle to find financiers. In the end, it all has to do with  money . Almost could not filming Cosmopolis. Producers are not stupid. That is, the types read the scripts, they realize that this film has too many philosophical dialogues, which takes place almost entirely inside a  car , and wonder: Who the hell is going to be interested in seeing this? And that we had to Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti in the cast. Nothing ensures the commercial success of a film. That is the reason that I struggle to find financiers. He also speaks of the crisis, protests, issues that may scare away some viewers … It’s funny, but when Don DeLillo Cosmopolis wrote 10 years ago there were not many signs that pull up a financial crack. In a sense we anticipate the economic crisis. I do not say that DeLillo and I are prophets, but art tends to anticipate events. We wrap the scene in which you throw a pie in the face yuppie who plays...

Patricia McKenzie Talks About Working with Rob on 'Cosmopolis'

Image
ROBsessed: Was the gun heavy? Did you film Eric being tasered? McKenzie: With so much action, I hardly remember the weight of the gun. We did not film Eric being tasered,  Rob really wanted to, and do it for real. Thank goodness, I would hate to have been the one to have to taser him! I've been exposed to all kind of guns on set and they always terrify me. ROBsessed: Who was stronger? You or Rob? McKenzie:  I think he is a gentleman and would let me win if we wrestled . ROBsessed: Tell us something we might not know about Rob and David. McKenzie:  They are two of the sweetest men in Hollywood. Both are extremely humble in person and lack pretension. I felt very comfortable around both of them.  David Cronenberg gave me a big hug the first time I ever saw him, and he said he was happy to finally meet me, which was so disarming, charming and fatherly. I think that is when I fell in love, because I will give everything to a director that makes me feel as ...

“Cosmopolis” Producer Martin Katz Mentions Rob In His Interview With ‘Real Style New York’ Magazine

Image
Martin Katz is not only the chair of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, he is also most recently the producer of widely-released films, A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis starring Robert Pattison. RS: Fast forward 20 years and now you are making huge movies. After Spider there were a few and then A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson . MK: I don’t know if it is a scandal. I think it was great for us and the movie that Rob was interested in making that type of move at this time. I think he is great in the movie and he will bring a new type of audience to David’s world. RS:What’s next for the ever evolving Martin Katz? MK: I have two things that I am excited about. I am working on my fourth collaboration with David Cronenberg called Maps To The Stars. It is an absurdist comedy about the entertainment business. We hope to be able to work with many of the people we have worked with before including Rob Pattinson. Rob Mention In David Cronenberg’s Indiewire Interview

Image
David Cronenberg says Robert Pattinson surprises him as an actor, just like Viggo Mortensen. Many wondered if how “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson and director David Cronenberg would mesh, particularly on a project as talky as “Cosmpolis,” which requires a confident and compelling leading man. But as it turns out, Cronenberg had a great time working with the young actor and has nothing but praise for the rising star. “I really think he’s a terrific actor. He’s extremely inventive. He surprised me every day on ‘Cosmopolis’ with the nuances and things that he did which were unexpected. Of course I was very familiar with the dialogue and yet he would surprise me,” Cronenberg enthused. “And I thought, this is a guy who I would like to work with some more, which is how I felt with Viggo Mortensen. When you find an actor who surprises you everyday, you figure, he could do it some more with a completely different role in a completely different movie.” Read the rest of the interview at...

“Cosmopolis” Makes #2 Spot In Top 10 Best Films Released In 2012 List

Image
2. Cosmopolis exposes most millennial concerns of identity, apathy, physical vs. meta value, telecommunications and sexual dissatisfaction during a 24 -hour traffic jam created by three equal physical events: the arrival of the president into a city, an Occupy Wall Street-esque protest and the funeral procession for a recently deceased celebrity. Eric Parker (Robert Pattison) is in a traveling wi -fi hotspot: his limousine. He is the creator of a financial analysis system that traces monetary rate movements by fractions of fractions of a second, these fractions make Parker rich and most likely the cause of a pre -reactionary panic that causes economic collapses. At 28, he’s old at this game now, and thus in a state of deep reflection. Because the dialogue is mostly lifted directly from Don DeLillo’s highly literate source material, Cosmopolis has a lot of ideas, only a fraction of which might register on first viewing. But because it’s DeLillo, it is also very funny. And because it...

The Year In Review: Part 1 – The 24FPS Awards 2012; Cosmopolis Wins Big!

Image
WINNER: Robert Pattinson If you had told me at the beginning of this year that I’d ever write Robert Pattinson’s name under Best anything (except perhaps ‘forgotten’), I’d have laughed in your face for minutes on end – especially after I’d seen Bel Ami – but Cosmopolis proves that behind the vacancy of Edward Cullen lurks a much darker side, and a surprising, intelligent, actor. Pattinson’s Eric Packer is more a vampire than his Twilight character; feeding off the lifeblood of the world, but hiding from its light in a coffin like limo . There’s a sense of total dislocation from the world and from people, reflected in Cronenberg’s imagery, but very present in Pattinson’s work. However, there’s complexity too; an evolution scene by scene as Packer trashes his own life bit by bit, coming closer to engaging in the world as he does so. It’s the slow cracking of that mask that is so remarkable in Pattinson’s performance. I just hope that – unlike Hayden Christensen after Shattered Glass ...

Chicagoist – Our Favorite Movies Of 2012, Part 1; “Cosmopolis” Make The Cut!

Image
Cosmopolis (directed by David Cronenberg, 2012) The old, weird, paranoid Cronenberg is back. With a vengeance, typified by a thoroughly offputting scene where Robert Pattinson’s reclusive billionaire undergoes another one of his daily medical exams. He points out a weird spot on his skin, and asks the physician, “What do we do about this?” The physician benignly replies, “Let it express itself.” Thank goodness for home video, where peculiar movies like this can bubble up to the surface again.
